BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING
September 5, 2006
Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, and Treasurer Allgaier. Absent: Trustees Guthrie and Vander Kamp.
Others Present: 2 others.
Call to Order and Pledge: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall by Philport. The Invocation was given by Vermeulen. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
** Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier. Motion Carried.
. ** Approval of Consent Agenda: The consent agenda was approved as follows, by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier.
a. Approval of the minutes of the 8/01/06 Regular meeting.
b. Approval of Treasurer’s report.
c. Approval of Disbursements and Transfers.
d. Communications
Motion Carried.
Citizens Time: A young man working on a merit badge was in attendance.
SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:
** A. Resolution on SOS from MTA: A Resolution was explained by Vermeulen concerning the opposition to the “Stop Overspending” ballot proposal. After discussion, a motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Philport to adopt this Resolution. A Roll Call vote brought YES votes from Allgaier, Philport, and Vermeulen. Absent: Guthrie, and Vander Kamp. Motion Carried, Resolution Adopted.
**B. Annual Meeting Date Ordinance Amendment:: Vermeulen updated on our Ordinance concerning the Annual Meeting. After discussion, a motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to have our attorney draft an amendment to this ordinance to change the date from the last Saturday of the last month of the fiscal year, to the first Tuesday of the last month of the fiscal year. Motion Carried.
** C. Resolution on Transportation Millage on Ballot:: Philport explained this request. This is a Resolution in support of KATS putting this millage question on the November ballot. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to support this by motion, rather than Resolution. Motion Carried.
** D. Smoke Detectors: Philport reported that we are almost out of the smoke detectors that we provide free to our residents. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to purchase up to $500 worth of these through SKCFA. Motion Carried.
**E. Passport Camera & Accessories: Allgaier gave information and costs on the purchase of a camera and accessories to be used to take passport photographs. This would be an additional service to our constituents, and would pay for itself in about a year. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to purchase this camera and accessories at a cost not to exceed $1350, and to charge $10 for the passport pictures. Motion Carried
F. South County Sewer & Water Authority Update: Per Philport, nothing new at the meeting to report.
G. South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport gave an update on the Chief and the Administrator.
Unfinished Business: Vermeulen re-addressed the subject of the old cemetery on YZ Avenue. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to have Mike Walker do a search, with special equipment, for any remains, at a cost of $225. We will proceed after we receive this information. Motion Carried.
New Business: None
Report of Board Members: Allgaier gave an update on SCMCCI. Vermeulen gave a followup on the August Primary Election. Philport gave an update on the 31st St. project, due for resurfacing in mid September. He also updated on the Township Hall roof progress.
**Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 8:07 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
