BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING

July 5, 2005



Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, Treasurer Allgaier, and Trustee Guthrie. Absent: Trustee Vander Kamp.


Others Present: 3 others.


Call to Order and Pledge: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall by Supervisor Philport. The Invocation was given by Philport. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


**        Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved as printed by a motion from Guthrie and seconded by Allgaier. Motion Carried.


**        Minutes Approval: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Guthrie to approve the minutes of the 6/07/05 regular meeting. Motion Carried.


**        Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was approved by a motion from Allgaier and seconded by Vermeulen. Motion Carried.


Communications: Vermeulen read a letter announcing a dedication of the roads opening in MidLink on Wed 7/06/05 @9:00 a.m.


**        Disbursements and Transfers: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Guthrie to approve payment of the bills as presented, with the exception of the Prein & Newhof invoices for maps. Vermeulen will follow up on these two invoices. Motion Carried.

 

           Citizens Time: W. Whelan thanked Allgaier for her help in getting a “bump’ sign placed at the intersection of V and Sprinkle while road work is being done there. H. Visser questioned the status of the RR tracks in the area. Philport stated that he is in communication with the RR to try to get them fixed. Visser then questioned the notices sent to Nazarene Camp residents on ZBA meetings. Vermeulen stated that she is working with the assessor to update these records for address purposes.

 

 

           SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:

 

A.        Implement Consent Agenda: Vermeulen explained the use and reasons for using a consent agenda for the repetitive and non-controversial agenda items. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Guthrie to implement a consent agenda for future use. Motion Carried

 

B.        Public Forum on South County Meth Labs & Criminal Justice: Philport reported that there will be a public forum on Meth Labs & the Criminal Justice Facility proposal on Wednesday, July 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the VPAC, presented by the County Sheriff Dept.

 

C.        Set Election Commission Meeting for 7/12/05: Vermeulen stated that there will be a meeting of the Election Commission on Tuesday, July 12, at 9:30 a.m. here at the Township Hall. This will be to approve election inspectors for the August 2, election.

 

 

 

D.        South County Sewer & Water Authority: Philport reported that the contracts have been signed for 4100 feet of gravity line to be placed on the west side of Sprinkle Rd. The contract was awarded to Byholt and work should begin within the next 30 days.

 

E.        South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport reported that the fire truck that had been damaged is now back in service. A contract is being worked on with the So Co EMS. Communications are being updated and an insurance review has been completed. Guthrie questioned the station numbering. Philport said this is being addressed.

 

Unfinished Business: Philport reported that the dust control for Township roads has been done, and that work on 33rd St should begin soon.

 

New Business: Philport said that a letter from the Supervisors in Kalamazoo County has been sent to the KCRC stating their displeasure with their current policies, and looking for some changes. He also stated that there is a statewide movement to change the number of road commissioners from three to five per county. He then stated that he will get a copy of the police report on a complaint on 6/4/05 on S. Indian Lake Dr. for the home owner involved.

 

           Report of Board Members: Allgaier reported that the tax bills are out, with this one including 1/3 of the county tax being moved here from the winter bill. Vermeulen reported that due to the upcoming election on August 2, the next Board meeting will be on August 9.

 

**        Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 8:30 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by Guthrie to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
