BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING


June 7, 2005



Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, and Treasurer Allgaier. Absent: Trustees Guthrie and Vander Kamp.


Others Present: 7 others.


Call to Order and Pledge: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall by Supervisor Philport. The Invocation was given by Vermeulen. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


**        Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved with the addition of A.1 Travel Trailer, G. KCRC Par funds, and H. Criminal Justice Forum by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by Philport. Motion Carried.


**        Minutes Approval: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to approve the minutes of the 5/10/05 regular meeting. Motion Carried.


**        Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was approved by a motion from Allgaier and seconded by Vermeulen. Motion Carried.


Communications: Philport read a letter received concerning the condition of the cemetery on 24th St. This will be followed up on.


**        Disbursements and Transfers: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to approve payment of the bills as presented. Motion Carried.

 

           Citizens Time: Hannah McKinny, Vice Mayor of City of Kalamazoo, and Ron Commissaris Supervisor of Texas Township addressed the Board concerning upcoming meetings on Kalamazoo Enhancement. They also presented each Board member with the book “The Price of Government”.

 

           SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:

 

**A.     Adopt New Subdivision Development Ordinance #103: Philport updated on the proposed Subdivision Development Ordinance #103. After discussion, a motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Philport to adopt this ordinance. A roll call vote brought YES votes from Allgaier, Philport, and Vermeulen. Absent: Guthrie and Vander Kamp. Ordinance Adopted.

 

A.1.     Travel Trailer: Vermeulen read a letter received requesting the use of a travel trailer for a temporary residence while building a home in Brady Township. After reviewing the Zoning Ordinances, it was recommended that we contact our attorney to see if this can be referred to the ZBA.

 

**B.     Adjust Fax Fees: Allgaier explained the new access to tax and assessing information that will be available on the internet shortly. To increase the use of this, and to come more in line with fax fees, a motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to increase the fee charged for faxes to $2 per page. Motion Carried.

 

**C.     Ordinance Violation Resolution: Allgaier updated on an ongoing violation that exists. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to issue a citation tomorrow and follow up with the attorney for further action, if necessary. Motion Carried.

 

D.        Appoint Building Assessment Committee: Philport appointed an assessment committee for input into the building needs for the Township Hall. This will consist of Vander Kamp as chair, Vermeulen, Guthrie, and J. Becker as members.

 

E.        South County Sewer & Water Authority Update: Philport updated on the sewer that is proposed to be put on the west side of Sprinkle Road.

 

F.        South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport updated on the new office at fire station #16 that is now fully functional, and houses all of the records.

 

**G.     KCRC Additional Par Funds: Philport reported that the KCRC has additional Par funds available in the amount of $761. This would give us $1522 more in road work. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to use these funds for additional gravel to be added to Y Avenue when the KCRC does their maintenance work. Motion Carried. Philport also reported that the Supervisors are trying to work with the KCRC for better service.

 

H.        Criminal Justice Forum: Philport suggested that we host a South County presentation on the Criminal Justice Facility and Meth Labs. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to schedule this presentation. Motion Carried. Philport will contact the Vicksburg PAC and Schoolcraft schools for the use of one of these facilities.

 

Unfinished Business: None

 

New Business: Vermeulen reported on an upcoming workshop for P/C and ZBA members put on by MTA. W. Whelan questioned the right of way on roads. Philport explained this.

 

           Report of Board Members: Vermeulen reported on the upcoming election on August 2. This will be a County-wide election.

 

**        Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 8:40 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
