BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING


April 1, 2008




Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, Treasurer Allgaier and Trustee VanderKamp. Absent: Trustee Guthrie.


Others Present: 2 others


Call to Order and Pledge: Philport called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall. Philport gave the invocation. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


**        Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved as printed by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp. Motion Carried.

 

**        Approval of Consent Agenda: The Consent Agenda was approved as printed by a motion, from Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier.

 

a.  Approval of 2/27/08 Special and 3/04/08 Regular meeting minutes.

b.  Approval of Budget Report

c. Approval of Disbursements and Transfers

SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:



 

**          A.        Appropriations Act for 2008-2009: Philport explained the Appropriations Act. Allgaier added an addition of MBIA to the places of deposit. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Philport to adopt this resolution. A roll call vote brought YES votes from Allgaier, Philport, Vermeulen, and VanderKamp. Absent: Guthrie. Motion Carried, and Resolution adopted.

 

**          B.        Ordinance #109 on Watercourse Setbacks: Sec. 15.3, 2.b amendment: Philport updated on the proposed Ordinance. After discussion, a motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to adopt this Ordinance. A roll call vote brought YES votes from VanderKamp, Allgaier, Philport, and Vermeulen. Absent: Guthrie. Motion Carried.

 

**          C.        Appoint Library Board Representative: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to appoint Louise Russell to a two year term as one of our representatives to the District Library Board. Motion Carried. Vermeulen stated that she has requested minutes from the meetings of the Library Board.

 

**          D.        Refurbish Township Sign: Philport updated on the condition of our Township sign. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by VanderKamp to have it repainted and refurbished at a cost of $790 by Mikes Custom Signs. Motion Carried.

 

**          E.        Township Insurance Carrier: Two bids were discussed for the Township Insurance Coverage. A motion was made by VanderKamp and seconded by Vermeulen to accept the bid from the Ted Hartleb Agency for $5995, with a total liability coverage of $3,000,000. Motion Carried.

 

**          F.        Set Trustee Wages for 2008-2009: A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to increase the Trustee wages to $100 per meeting. Motion Carried.

 

**          G.        Set Office Staff Wages for 2008-2009: Vermeulen updated on the current wages of the office staff, and listed suggested increases. After discussion, a motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to increase their wages by approximately 5%, rounding to the nearest nickel figure. Motion Carried.

 

**          H.        Set Holiday Office Closings for 2008-2009: A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to set the holiday office closings for 2008-2009 to be Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following, Christmas Eve at Noon, Christmas Day and the day following, New Years day and the day following. Motion Carried.

 

I.         Hall & Cemetery Mowing & Grounds Care Bids for 2008: Philport will request bids for these services and report back to the Board.


J.        Road Projects for 2008: The road committee will be meeting this Thursday to discuss Brady Township roads in general and to make recommendations for 2008 projects.

 

K.        South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport reported that the ambulance administrative office is being moved to the fire authority office, and that they are working on trying to put an ambulance back into service.


L.        South County Sewer & Water Authority Update: No report

 

Unfinished Business: Vermeulen set the date for the Election Commission to meet to appoint election inspectors for the May 6, 2008 election for Wednesday, April 9th at 9:30 a.m. She also asked to add the words “and will be returned if premises are left in same condition as before rental.” to the current Hall Rental Agreement, in the line dealing with security deposit. This was approved.


New Business: None


Report of Board Members: Allgaier reported that she is updating the web site.


**          Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 8:17 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
