BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING


February 5, 2008




Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, Treasurer Allgaier and Trustee VanderKamp. Absent: Trustee Guthrie.*


Others Present: 3 others


Call to Order and Pledge: Philport called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall. VanderKamp gave the invocation. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


**        Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved as printed, by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp. Motion Carried.

 

**        Approval of Consent Agenda: The consent agenda was approved by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier. Motion Carried.

Citizens Time: Judy Sivak from the Area Agency on Aging spoke about the programs available for the aging and/or disabled.


* Trustee Guthrie arrived at 7:40 p.m.


Captain Green from the KCSD updated us on current status of calls, meth labs, etc.


Ron Malito spoke on behalf of his son who was unable to attend.


SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:


 

            A.        New Allocation for the Fire Authority: Philport updated on the new amounts for the fire authority. Brady’s new figure will be $7034.69, as of 4/01/08, up $344.25 from last year.

 

**          B.        Walk for Warmth Resolution: Vermeulen presented the proposed 15th annual Walk for Warmth Resolution. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Guthrie to adopt this Resolution. A roll call vote brought YES votes from VanderKamp, Vermeulen, Philport, Allgaier, and Guthrie. Resolution Adopted.

 


**          C.        Cemetery Markers: Vermeulen presented a letter received concerning cemetery markers. A motion was made by Guthrie and seconded by Vermeulen to respond with the information that all of the Brady Township sites that are identifiable are already marked. Motion Carried.

 

**          D.        Solid Waste Ordinance: Philport updated on the proposed Ordinance #108 on Solid Waste. After discussion, a motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to adopt this Ordinance. A roll call vote brought YES votes from Guthrie, Allgaier, Philport, Vermeulen, and VanderKamp. Motion Carried.

 

E.        South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport reported that the Township has a new ISO rating from 8 to 7 which is down one point, and could drop homeowners fire insurance rates. We will put this in the newsletter when it is effective.

 

F.        South County Sewer & Water Authority Update: Philport updated on the Schoolcraft Village Sewer project, which was defeated. The authority is still trying to find a way to help the businesses along 131 in Schoolcraft.

Report of Board Members: Guthrie reported on the numerous tax foreclosures in the County. Allgaier reported that she received her degree from the Township Governance Academy at the recent MTA conference in Detroit. Vermeulen reported on the 25% turnout for the 1/15/08 Presidential Primary election. Philport reported that the road committee met with the KCRC. They were told that the work on 32nd St. is not acceptable. KCRC agreed to fix it. Our par funds for 2008 should be $40,454. We are in negotiations with the Village of Vicksburg on a possible 425 Agreement for a liquor license on Spruce St.


**          Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 8:48 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
