BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING
February 3, 2009
Members Present: Supervisor Philport, Clerk Vermeulen, Treasurer Allgaier, and Trustee VanderKamp. Absent: Trustee Guthrie.
Others Present: Two (2) others.
Call to Order and Pledge: Philport called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. at the Brady Township Hall. Philport gave the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
** Agenda Approval: The Agenda was approved as printed, by a motion from Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp. Motion Carried.
** Approval of Consent Agenda: The Consent Agenda was approved as printed by a motion, from Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier.
1. Approval of 2/06/09 regular meeting minutes.
2. Approval of Budget Report
3. Approval of Disbursements and Transfers
4. Communications.

SCHEDULED AGENDA ITEMS:
** A. Federal Poverty Guidelines: Philport reported that the guidelines for Poverty are between $10,400 to $35,600 for 2009. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to set these guidelines for use in Brady Township. Motion Carried.
B. Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner: Pat Crowley, the new Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner was in attendance. She updated us on current workings of that office, saying that much of their attention is currently complaint driven.
----- Captain Rick Green, of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Dept, presented the annual report of police calls for Brady Township. He also stated that he will be replaced as our liaison by Ken Marshall.
** C. MTA Legal Fee Request: Philport reported that he had checked with the other local entities concerned in this legal case, such as SCS&WA and Pavilion Township. He was informed that they were not participating in funds for MTA in the Consumers Energy lawsuit. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by Vermeulen to not participate in this funding. Motion Carried.
D. Set date for Budget Workshop Special Meeting: The date of Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. was set for the final budget workshop for the 2009-2010 budget.
E. Household Hazardous Waste Report: Philport reported that there were 77 drop-offs from Brady Township in 2008 for a total cost of $899.27.
** F. Resolution for Walk for Warmth: Vermeulen updated on the Resolution for Walk for Warmth. A motion was made by Vermeulen and seconded by Allgaier to adopt this Resolution. A roll call vote brought YES votes from Allgaier, Philport, Vermeulen, and VanderKamp. Absent: Guthrie. Resolution Adopted, and Motion Carried.
** G. Purchase offer for YZ Ave. Property: Philport reported that an offer of $1,000 had been made by Dan and Brandy Gregart to purchase the 200 x 250 parcel of land previously known as the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, and now owned by Brady Township, on YZ Avenue, adjacent to their property. This could be done by quit claim deed. A Resolution was made including certain stipulations concerning the disposition of markers currently on that parcel. A motion was made by VanderKamp and seconded by Philport to adopt this Resolution. A roll call vote brought YES votes from VanderKamp, Vermeulen, Philport, and Allgaier. Absent: Guthrie. Resolution Adopted and Motion Carried.
** H. Pictometry Use: Kal Co. has approved the use of Pictometry for the County. We could use this magnified system at a cost of $400 per section, with the County paying half. A motion was made by Philport and seconded by VanderKamp to not participate in the project. Motion Carried.
** I. Legal Session on current litigation: A motion was made by Philport, and seconded by VanderKamp to enter into executive closed session at 8:25 p.m. to discuss current litigation. Motion Carried. The Board returned to open session at 9:00 p.m.
J. South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority Update: Philport presented new proposed budget figures for use in our budget.
K. South County Sewer & Water Authority Update: Philport stated that there would be a meeting at Portage City hall on Saturday 2/14/09 at 9:00 a.m. concerning sewers in South County.

Report of Board Members: Philport gave an update on the latest Meth Lab report, also that he attended a water & sewer meeting in Lansing. Allgaier reported that 2/17/09 will be the last day for taxes to be paid without penalty and interest. 3/02/09 is the last day to pay taxes here at the Township before they go to County. Vermeulen reported that the MTA conference recently attended in Detroit was very good.
** Adjournment: With there being no further business, a motion was made at 9:23 P.M. by Vermeulen and seconded by VanderKamp to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
